The facility is fully integrated with WEC Lines’ North West Continent–Canary Islands (NWCCAI) short-sea shipping service, enabling seamless end-to-end logistics for freight moving between Hamburg and key European markets.
According to WEC Lines, the cross-docking solution facilitates the direct transfer of cargo—both palletised and non-palletised—between maritime containers and road transport units, eliminating intermediate storage and significantly reducing handling time. This streamlined process improves terminal throughput, shortens overall lead times, increases scheduling flexibility, and offers a cost-effective alternative to conventional round-trip trucking operations.
The facility supports side-loading and side-unloading configurations, removing dependency on fixed ramp infrastructure and thereby accommodating a broader spectrum of cargo types—including oversized, temperature-sensitive, and unitised loads.
By integrating its short-sea shipping network with coordinated inland transport services, WEC Lines strengthens regional supply chain resilience across Germany and adjacent cross-border areas, while expanding market access to the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the Canary Islands.
Furthermore, the initiative contributes to more sustainable logistics operations: optimised vehicle utilisation, reduced empty-running kilometres, and enhanced load consolidation are expected to lower CO₂ emissions per tonne-kilometre.
