Hapag-Lloyd drops new cost bomb on Nigeria

A street turn refers to the direct reuse of an imported full container—without depot handling—for a subsequent domestic export shipment, arranged under merchant haulage contracts. Triangulation, meanwhile, denotes a consolidated inland movement wherein import on-carriage and export pre-carriage are executed as a single trip by a contracted road carrier or subcontractor.

The STC rates, denominated in Nigerian Naira (NGN), are structured by container type and size as follows:

• 20-foot dry container: NGN 15,000 per unit

• 40-foot dry container: NGN 20,000 per unit

• 20-foot refrigerated container (reefer): NGN 45,000 per unit

• 40-foot refrigerated container (reefer): NGN 60,000 per unit

This charge reflects operational costs associated with coordinated inland logistics, including equipment repositioning, administrative coordination, and regulatory compliance in the Nigerian market. All applicable containers moved under street turn or triangulation arrangements in Nigeria will be subject to the STC from the effective date.
