Breaking! Hapag-Lloyd unveils latest Middle East rerouting plan
2026-09-23
This measure has been introduced in response to the ongoing security challenges in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Under the revised arrangement, cargo currently staged in Jeddah will be transported to Aden using a third-party feeder vessel. Upon arrival in Aden, consignees are responsible for arranging customs clearance and container retrieval.
Middle East Emergency Surcharge (MEES) Rates (USD):
The MEES applies in addition to the base freight rate, War Risk Surcharge, and all other applicable port-related charges.
Hapag-Lloyd stated that this interim solution is intended to mitigate further delays and safeguard supply chain continuity for affected shipments.
