The container vessel *Umm Qarn* will operate both voyages, as detailed below:
This announcement follows Hapag-Lloyd’s and Maersk’s earlier joint decision to re-route selected Gemini Cooperation services from the Cape of Good Hope alternative to the traditional Red Sea–Suez Canal corridor—subject to rigorous safety and security criteria.
According to Hapag-Lloyd, its initial transits through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait were executed successfully and provided valuable operational insights in preparation for the SE1 service’s scheduled passages.
All Red Sea transits remain contingent upon a comprehensive, voyage-specific security assessment conducted prior to departure. In addition, each transit will be conducted under coordinated naval escort and in close alignment with relevant national authorities, international maritime security frameworks, and certified private maritime security providers.
Hapag-Lloyd emphasized that this initiative reflects a cautious, phased, and service-by-service evaluation—not a wholesale reinstatement of the Gemini Cooperation network’s Red Sea routing. The company continues to monitor regional developments closely and retains full flexibility to adjust routing based on real-time risk assessments.
