MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has introduced revised all-in Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates for containerized shipments from Far East ports—including Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia—to key destinations across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean.
These rates take effect on 22 March 2026 and remain valid until 29 March 2026.
Applicable all-in FAK rates (per TEU/FEU, inclusive of standard ocean freight) are as follows:
Nigeria (West Africa): USD 5,200 (20′) / USD 6,200 (40′ HC)
Other West African base ports: USD 4,350 (20′) / USD 5,500 (40′ HC)
South Africa: USD 3,700 (20′) / USD 4,700 (40′ HC)
East Africa (including Mombasa): USD 3,550 (20′) / USD 4,750 (40′ HC)
Mozambique: USD 4,350 (20′) / USD 6,550 (40′ HC)
Berbera (Somalia): USD 4,850 (20′) / USD 7,000 (40′ HC)
Port Louis (Mauritius): USD 3,650 (20′) / USD 4,550 (40′ HC)
MSC clarifies that these figures represent comprehensive FAK rates covering base ocean freight but remain subject to applicable carrier-imposed surcharges (e.g., BAF, CAF, ENS, ISPS), as well as mandatory local charges at origin and destination ports.
