According to maritime industry analyst Alphaliner, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest container liner operator, has become the first carrier to operate a fleet of 1,000 container-carrying vessels.
This milestone was achieved with the charter-in of the 868-TEU multipurpose vessel M/V Admiral Neptune, which is currently berthed at the Port of Antwerp and scheduled to join MSC's Antwerp–Grangemouth service.
As of the latest Alphaliner data, MSC' operated fleet comprises 1,000 container-capable vessels—including dedicated container ships and vessels classified as “container-friendly” multipurpose units—and totals 7.32 million TEUs in combined capacity.
This represents a capacity advantage of approximately 2.67 million TEUs over its closest competitor, Maersk, whose operated fleet consists of 736 vessels. The fleet aggregation includes vessels operated by MSC-affiliated entities such as WEC Lines, Log-in Logística, and Medlog.
