Ocean Network Express (ONE) has launched the Iberia Baltic Express (IBX), a new weekly container service calling at the Port of Riga. This marks the first direct maritime connection between Latvia and Portuguese ports in the port’s history.
The IBX significantly extends ONE’s regional network, enhancing market access for Latvian exporters and importers across Europe and globally.
The service rotation is: Leixões → Lisbon → Southampton → Rotterdam → Gdańsk → Riga → Klaipėda → Gdynia → Bremerhaven → Rotterdam → Leixões, with a weekly call at Riga.
Estimated transit times are approximately seven days from Portuguese ports to Riga and four days from Rotterdam to Riga.
The IBX builds upon ONE’s existing Baltic operations, which commenced in January 2025 with the Baltic Bridge Express—a service linking Baltic and Finnish ports to Rotterdam. The IBX expands this footprint by integrating Portugal, the United Kingdom, and additional European gateway ports into ONE’s regional offering.
As Latvia’s sole container port with regular liner services and dedicated container terminals, the Port of Riga is currently served by nine international container carriers operating across eleven scheduled routes—the highest number in its history. In 2025, the port handled 495,700 TEUs in containerized cargo, representing 98% of all container traffic in Latvia. Containers constitute approximately 30% of the port’s total cargo volume and remain a strategic priority for development; the IBX strengthens this focus by adding frequency, reliability, and geographic reach to its container network.
