Maersk moves in! South Asia to Saudi Arabia and Jordan dry container rates surge
2026-08-14

Geographic scope

The PSS applies to dry container exports originating from the following South Asian countries:

  • Bangladesh

  • India

  • Sri Lanka

  • Maldives

  • Nepal

Destination ports are limited to those located in Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Applicable rate

A flat surcharge of USD 1,500 per dry container will be applied.

Price calculation methodology

The PSS applies exclusively to non-SPOT bookings. The applicable rate is determined based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD), defined as follows:

  • For shipments not subject to U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) jurisdiction: the scheduled departure date of the first ocean leg; Maersk will use the date confirmed at the time of booking acceptance.

  • For FMC-regulated shipments: the last container gate-in date at the origin terminal.

SPOT bookings are expressly excluded from this PSS. Payment terms for the surcharge shall align with the underlying freight payment terms stipulated in the applicable contract or tariff.

Additional considerations

Other surcharges—including local charges, contingency surcharges, and regulatory levies—may apply concurrently, subject to contractual and regulatory provisions.

This revision does not alter any tariff rates previously notified, published, or filed by Maersk in accordance with applicable local regulatory requirements.

For trades governed by the U.S. Shipping Act or the People’s Republic of China Maritime Regulations, any quotation or surcharge—unless formally incorporated into a duly filed service contract or its approved amendment—shall not constitute a binding obligation on Maersk.
