The implementation of these adjustments will take effect between 21 September and 15 October, varying by shipping lane.
Trades from China to Africa and Mauritius
Effective 21 September, CMA CGM will implement revised PSS rates across multiple shipping lanes originating from China and bound for West Africa.
For shipments departing from Central and South China to Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin and Equatorial Guinea (excluding Ghana and Togo), the surcharge will be set at US$50 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU).
For cargo originating from China and its Special Administrative Regions bound for Ghana and Togo, the applicable surcharge is US$150 per TEU.
The carrier will also levy a US$200 per TEU surcharge for destinations including Liberia, Mauritania, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, with Guinea and Senegal excluded from this tariff. For Senegal specifically, the surcharge will be US$100 per TEU.
For shipments bound for Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Gabon and Cameroon, a US$75 per TEU surcharge will apply.
These adjustments are applicable to dry and refrigerated cargo under short-term contracts.
Separately, effective 21 September, CMA CGM will introduce a US$200 per TEU PSS on shipments from China, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia bound for Port Louis, Mauritius.
CMA CGM imposes additional surcharge for Durban
Effective 25 September, the carrier will introduce a US$350 per TEU surcharge on shipments from China bound for Durban, South Africa. This measure applies to all cargo categories and will remain in effect until further notice.
CMA CGM notes that for shipments originating in China, relevant surcharges will be subject to filing with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange and/or incorporated into the base ocean freight.
Refrigerated cargo surcharge for trades from Europe to West Africa
CMA CGM has also issued an update to its PSS for refrigerated cargo transported from Europe to West Africa.
Effective 1 October, refrigerated shipments departing from North Europe, the Baltic Sea region, Scandinavia, the Western Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea will be subject to a €200 per TEU surcharge.
Implementation of PSS from North Europe to the United States postponed
In addition, CMA CGM has postponed the implementation of its PSS03 surcharge for shipping lanes from North Europe to the United States. The surcharge was originally scheduled to enter into force on 20 September, and will now take effect from 1 October and remain applicable until further notice.
This measure covers shipments from North Europe, including Northern France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia, Poland, the Baltic region, and the northern Spanish ports of Bilbao, Gijon and Vigo, with Portugal excluded.
For cargo bound for the U.S. East Coast, U.S. West Coast and U.S. Gulf Coast, as well as inland destinations accessed via these gateway ports, the surcharge will be US$1,000 per 20-foot container, and US$2,000 per 40-foot container, 40-foot high-cube container or 45-foot container. The surcharge applies to both dry and refrigerated cargo, with out-of-gauge shipments excluded.
PSS for trades from South America to Europe
Finally, effective 15 October, CMA CGM will introduce a US$200 per container surcharge applicable to shipments originating from selected regions along the east coast of South America.
This PSS covers shipments from Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay bound for markets in North Europe, Scandinavia, the Baltic region, the Mediterranean, the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea. It also applies to destinations in North Africa, the Middle East and the Red Sea. Shipments originating from northeastern Brazilian locations including Fortaleza, Manaus and Vila do Conde are excluded.
This measure applies to dry cargo, out-of-gauge cargo and special equipment under contracts with a validity period of no more than three months.
