Hapag-Lloyd will implement a Low Water Surcharge (LWS) of USD 1,350 per TEU for containerized cargo to and from the Port of Manaus, Brazil, effective 12 September 2026 (based on tariffing date). This measure responds to persistently declining water levels in the Amazon River basin—particularly in the Western Amazon—where authorities have forecast an unusually severe dry season.  

The LWS applies to all container types (including dry, reefer, high-cube, and tank containers) and is intended to offset additional operational costs and navigational constraints arising from reduced river depth, including draft limitations and mandatory cargo load reductions.  

Hapag-Lloyd is closely monitoring hydrological conditions in coordination with the Western Amazon River Authority, which issued its initial dry-season advisory on 14 July 2026. Should the onset of critical low-water conditions be delayed, Hapag-Lloyd reserves the right to adjust the effective date of the surcharge, with any such revision communicated at least 30 days in advance.
